We’re Sebastian and Tawnya, co-bloggers who will help you unlock the secrets of the financial world!
We started this blog so we could share our knowledge of finance topics in order to help others better understand finance. Our goal is to teach people of all ages how financial systems work, and how to take advantage of these systems to save big money.
Our main focus is showing people how to save money on every day expenditures through savvy utilization of financial institutions and situations. Another goal of our blog is to teach people how marketers and financial institutions use psychology to trick them into making purchases that are ill-advised. Once you are aware of how you’ve been conditioned by your background, marketing, and social media, you can begin to combat bad financial habits.
Knowledge is power. You are in control, not the financial institutions, department stores, car dealers, consumerist ideas, social media, or emotional spending habits. We’ll help you understand these systems so you can train yourself to be smart and frugal. Our articles are meant to teach, inform, and highlight various strategies you can utilize to save more money.

Minimize your debt, Maximize your life
We were just your average married couple unaware of the financial implications having debt entails. Once we realized it would be impossible to achieve our dreams in life while making minimum payments each month, we decided to get rid of all our debt. After paying off $40k of student loans and credit card debt in only 12 months, we decided to share our story and help others achieve the same financial success! Money management is typically a topic most people don’t feel comfortable discussing with others, but we want to change that! We created "Beyond a Budget" to provide a confidential way to learn about personal finance.

As The Rich Fool, I write about the intersection of money and faith as I embark on a personal journey of radical generosity. My blog revolves around the central idea that personal finance is most powerful when it enables us to be at our most generous, not when it makes us more comfortable and secure. Challenged by the biblical parable of the rich fool condemned by God for hoarding possessions and accumulating wealth he didn't need, I started The Rich Fool to find the tricky balance between financial independence and radical generosity. Through articles on spending, saving and giving, I examine the responsibility that comes with wealth, and seek a higher purpose for personal finance. I'm a Christian, husband, father and marketing executive trying to figure out how to wisely manage excess riches I never expected to receive. Join me on my journey of generosity!
